The Doctoral Programme in Social and Cultural Anthropology at Ilia State University has several funding sources.
Study: Ilia State University is highly committed to developing doctoral research in Georgia. Accordingly, the university offers students the opportunity to study at the doctoral level for free.
Scholarships: Some of the students enrolled in the doctoral programme can receive scholarships from various foundations with which the Anthropology Programme cooperates. Information about scholarships will be announced at the same time as admission to the programme. At this stage, the programme has 5 Heinrich Boell Foundation scholarship holders (Ketevan Lafachi, Tamta Tatarashvili, Lika Jalaghania, Lina Gvinianidze and Dato Laghidze).
Research: Within the programme’s framework, there is an opportunity to obtain research funds. This opportunity was created in cooperation with the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies. Its purpose is to finance expenses related to field research, archival work, or other academic activities for PhD students and professors involved in the programme.
To receive research funding, students must meet the following requirements:·
- Must have high academic performance;·
- Must have defended prospectus;·
- Submit a brief description of research activities and a budget (travel, living or archival research expenses).
Preference will be given to those students who:·
- Do not have a scholarship/ do not have other sources of funding to conduct research;·
- Students whose fieldwork involves travel and living expenses or archival work
Announcement of decisions:·
- Applications are accepted at the beginning of each semester.·
- The programme council selects candidates. The council selects two or three candidates and submits them to the Institute for Social and Cultural Studies for funding.
