Biography 

César Giraldo holds a doctorate in Social Anthropology from the University of Aberdeen, a Diploma in Biological Sciences, and a Master’s in Social Anthropology from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia. After his doctorate, he was a postdoctoral researcher for the project Biosocial Relations and Hierarchies at the University of Iceland. In 2015, the British Academy endorsed him as an Exceptional Promising Talent and Somerville College awarded him stipendiary Junior Research Fellowship. He was an Associate Researcher at the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS), School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME), University of Oxford. Most recently, he was a Senior Scientist in the Development and Knowledge Sociology Working Group at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) and teaching at the University of Bremen. He is the author of Microbes and Other Shamanic Beings (2018, Palgrave Macmillan) and Ecos en el arrullo del mar, las artes de la marinería en el Pacífico y su mimesis en la música y la danza (Uniandes, 2009).
