Friday, July 9th, the project: “Tbilisi as an Urban Assemblage” (Rustaveli Foundation) and Doctoral School of Anthropology invite to a talk by Levan Alpaidze who will present his work – “Ecosystem services provided by urban forests in the Southern Caucasus region: a modelling study in Tbilisi, Georgia”.

Probably it is hard to imagine Paris without Bois de Boulogne, Munich without Englischer Garten, and New York without Central Park. The same can be said about Tbilisi. What could Tbilisi be without Vake Park, Vera, or Mtatsminda Parks? How interesting would Tbilisi be without Botanical Garden or Mustaidi park? Probably it would be a dull, hot, and dusty city, surrounded by the overheated mountain ridges.

Levan Alpaidze is a Ph.D. student in the Urbanism program, at Tbilisi State University,  Social and political science faculty. His dissertation theme is Urban gardens in Tbilisi. The main research topic covers Tbilisi Green infrastructures and urban ecosystem services.  Besides these major components, he addresses general urbanization and green urban infrastructures, today’s social-ecological problems, green spaces in the city and air pollution conditions, and sustainable matters related to a city taken as a complex ecosystem.
