On March 31, 2023 at 5:00 pm, a presentation by Vlad Naumescu will be held as part of the PhD program in Anthropology. The research seminar will be conducted online via the Zoom platform. The title of the lecture is: The ‘post’ in perspective: global reconfigurations of law, politics and religion

This exploratory talk draws on research with Orthodox Christian communities in postsocialist and postcolonial contexts to observe the mutual infusion of (secular) law and religion, which leads to a transmutation of rites into rights.  Besides a better understanding of religious transformations this will help us think between ‘posts’ ethnographically.

Vlad Naumescu is Associate Professor at the Central European University. He has conducted extensive fieldwork in Ukraine, Romania and South India in different Eastern Christian communities, looking at the practices, institutions and politics that shape local traditions.
